Product Specification

The commitment towards servicing the automotive industry is no small task. Perseverance, consistency, accuracy and technical expertise are being evolved incessantly to meet the demanding and precise automotive applications. Developing and manufacturing flexible PVC and vinyl alloys based on the demands of major automobile OEM's is an ongoing process. A range of lead/heavy metal-free compounds has been developed to meet all specific requirements and also conform to the ELV regulations.

Compounds are designed for interior and exterior automotive applications. All these compounds withstand the severity of weather and merge with the vehicle decor and aesthetics.

Reduction in automobile weight to increase the fuel efficiency is a prime requisite in the automotive industry. We have compounds in our product basket, which meet the critical requirements for manufacturing thin wall cables used in Wiring Harness. grades can be processed at speeds>600m/min and meet the International standards e.g. JISK6723, JASOD611 etc. Polytech also has AVSS wiring harness grades that are heavy metal-free.

The End of Life Vehicle (ELV) regulations

The End of Life Vehicle (ELV) regulations set out environmental standards for the treatment and scrapping of old cars and vans, encouraging their reuse and recycling.

These regulations outline how authorised handlers should dismantle, recycle and dispose of vehicle materials. In time, all fluids will need to be removed, and certain parts dismantled before scrapping. They also include provisions on vehicle manufacturers when designing cars. These include
  • Restricting the use of certain heavy metals in the construction of new vehicles
  • Providing information on the materials used in a vehicle to aid in their reuse, recycling and disposal.
The regulations will introduce the licensing of authorised sites for treating ELVs. Authorised Treatment Facilities handling end of life vehicles will also be issue certificates of destruction to vehicle owners to demonstrate that will serve as evidence that a car or van has been properly disposed of.

Vehicle manufacturers and importers will also have the responsibility of bearing the cost of taking back vehicles that have no value that were put onto the market after July 2002.

Keeping in view the requirements of ELV regulations, Shriram Polytech has introduced a range of heavy-metal free compounds meeting these requirements. These compounds are used for automotive applications especially for export requirements.
